Assemblies

Assemblies are commonly used bid items and they can contain multiple pieces with different shapes, dimensions, finishes and other properties, as well as accessories and parametric assemblies. By adding an assembly to your estimating job, you can add all these pieces at once.

You can create a library of assemblies that you can use in all estimating jobs.

Create an assembly

  1. Click the Maintenance ribbon tab.
  2. On the menu, select Estimating > Labor Maintenance > Assemblies.
    The Select Assembly dialog box opens.
  3. Click Add.
  4. Type a name for the assembly, and click OK.

    The Assembly dialog box opens.

    (1) Summary:

    • The quantity, length, weight, surface area, and work time in hours for each of the selected items, all of the selected items, all items visible in the job, and the entire job
    • The pounds per hour and hours per ton calculations for the selected items, all items visible in the job, and the entire job

    (2) Find: Click to find items of a specific shape, material grade, or material dimension, or a particular item in the assembly. For instructions, see Find estimating items.

    (3) Navigation tree: Filter to view specific items.

  5. Click New to add the first item to the assembly.
  6. Type the number of items in Quantity
  7. Create a comment item as the header line of the assembly:
    1. Set Shape to CO.
    2. Click the Dimensions field.
    3. Type a description for the assembly, and press Enter.
    4. Click Add

      Repeat this step to add more items.

  8. When the assembly is ready, click the Close button (X) in the upper-right corner.

Add additional labor and clips to an item

To add additional labor and clips to an item, do the following in the Assembly dialog box:
  1. Select the item in the item list.
  2. Expand the Additional Labor & Clips section.
  3. Click Edit.
    The Estimating Item dialog box opens.
  4. Click New under Additional Labor or Clips, depending on the type of item you are adding.
  5. Define the properties.
  6. Click Add.
  7. Click Save
  8. To close the dialog, click the Close button (X) in the upper-right corner.

Add accessories or parametric assemblies to the assembly

To add accessories or parametric assemblies to the assembly, do the following in the Assembly dialog box:

Add an accessory
  1. Click the Assembly Maintenance ribbon tab.
  2. On the menu, select Add Accessory.

    The Select Accessory dialog box opens.

  3. Select the accessory that you want to add.
  4. Use the checkboxes under the accessory list to select if you want to use the finish and category of the original item, or set the category as the accessory description.
  5. Click Add Selected.

The accessory is added to the assembly.

Add a parametric assembly
  1. Click the Assembly Maintenance ribbon tab.
  2. On the menu, select Add Parametric Assembly.
  3. Double-click the parametric assembly that you want to add.

    The Parametric Assembly - Variables dialog box opens.

  4. If necessary, set values for the variables.
  5. Click Calculate Parametric Assembly.
  6. Click Add Parametric Assembly.

The parametric assembly is added to the assembly.

Manage assemblies

You can view, rename, and delete both globally available and job-specific assemblies in the Assembly Maintenance dialog box. Furthermore, you can copy job-specific assemblies to the assembly library, so that they will be available in all estimating jobs.

  1. Click the Maintenance ribbon tab.
  2. On the menu, select Estimating > Labor Maintenance > Assembly Maintenance.

    The Assembly Maintenance dialog box opens.

    You can view the existing global assemblies in a list on the left side, and the job-specific assemblies on the right side.

  3. Do any of the following:

    Rename an assembly
    1. Select an assembly in either of the lists.
    2. Type a new name in the empty field under the list.
    3. Click Rename.
    Delete an assembly
    1. Select an assembly in either of the lists.
    2. Click Delete under the list.
    3. To permanently delete the assembly, click Yes in the confirmation dialog box.
    Copy a job-specific assembly to the assembly library
    1. In the Job list, click to select the estimating job from which you want to copy an assembly.
    2. Select the assembly that you want to copy.
    3. Click <Copy.

    The assembly is now available for all estimating jobs.

  4. To close the dialog, click the Close button (X) in the upper-right corner.
