Install Tekla PowerFab on a server

As an administrator, installing Tekla PowerFab on a server is the first step. The server installation includes the MySQL database.

Note: To download the latest installation files and to install a Full configuration, make sure you are signed in with a Trimble Identity that with a current maintenance license. Without a Trimble Identity, use the Viewer configuration and sign in with the default Tekla PowerFab sign-in information.

  1. Go to Tekla Downloads and download the installer for the desired Tekla PowerFab version or service pack.
  2. Double-click the installer to run the installation.
    1. Review the license agreement. Select Accept and click Next.
    2. From the drop-down menu, select the installation type Server.

      By default, New Tekla PowerFab Installation and MySQL Database are selected.

    3. Click Next >.
    4. Select the installation folder.

      We recommend installing Tekla PowerFab to the default folder C:\Program Files (x86)\Tekla\Tekla PowerFab. You can also select your preferred location.

    5. Click Install.

      The Tekla PowerFab installation starts. When the application files have been installed, you are prompted to install the MySQL database.

    6. Review the license agreement. Select Accept and click Next.
    7. Use the default folder for installation. Click Install.

      The MySQL installation starts.

    8. When the installation is complete, close the installer.

      The actual fabrication database is not yet installed.

  3. Open Tekla PowerFab.
  4. Sign in with your Trimble Identity.
  5. Click Log In.
    Use the default Tekla PowerFab sign-in information:
    • User: admin
    • Password: fab

    You get a message that the database is not yet installed and that the program will extract and restore the sample database. The log-in process runs through both the upgrade and update processes.

  6. Sign in and log in again as prompted.
  7. You may be prompted to back up the database. Click No.
Proceed to defining the Default Directories. For instructions, see Default directories.

After defining the directory structure, exit Tekla PowerFab and proceed to setting up the remote service for Tekla PowerFab Go. For instructions, see Set up Tekla PowerFab Remote Server for Tekla PowerFab Go.
