Update Tekla PowerFab

In the lower left corner of the Tekla PowerFab main window, you can see when there are new versions of Tekla PowerFab available. Always run the update on the server first.

Update server

Before you begin updating Tekla PowerFab, ensure the following:

  • You are signed in with a Trimble Identity that has a Tekla EPM or Tekla PowerFab maintenance license.
  • Tekla PowerFab is closed.
  • All users and integrated software are signed out of the database. See Check logged-in users and Force shutdown.
  1. To download the update file, go to downloads.tekla.com and in Tekla PowerFab Suite, click Download.
  2. In All Downloads, click the latest version to download it.
  3. In File Exlorer, go to the Downloads folder and double-click the update file to run it.

    The installation wizard opens.

  4. Accept the license agreement.
  5. Select Update as the install type.

If the update fails, the Client install is shown as the default instead.

  6. In the Destination Folder field, check the location where the update will be installed.

The location of the latest install is shown as default.

  7. To install the update, click Install.

If there is an error, check the Task Manager to make sure that there are no Tekla PowerFab processes running and retry the installation.

If the update was aborted, run the installation as a client install and follow the remaining steps.

  8. When the update is complete, click Close to close the installation window.
  9. Sign in to Tekla PowerFab as an administrator.

The application prompts you to update the database.

  10. To update the database, click OK > Yes.

The server update is complete and the program restarts the remote server service. Verify the restart in Tekla PowerFab Remote Monitor.

Update client

Before you update any client workstation, note that:
  • The server computer must be updated first.
  • Tekla PowerFab has to be closed on all client workstations. See Check logged-in users and Force shutdown.
  • You must be signed in with a Trimble Identity.
  • To connect and share information, all workstations in your company need to have the same version of Tekla PowerFab as the server computer.
  1. In File Exlorer, move the update file from the Downloads folder to the Update directory.

If the Update directory is set properly, this will prompt the users to update when they open the program. To check the directory, go to File > Default Directories.

When the program asks you to confirm the update, click Yes.

If Update field is not correct in the Default Directories or the users are not allowed to act as a local administrator, the update file must be run on each client machine manually. In this case, you get an error message and need to do steps a and b:

    1. Click OK > No.

If you click Yes, this will delete your database.

    2. Go to the location where you downloaded the update, and to run the update, double-click the update file.
  2. In the Tekla PowerFab License Agreement wizard, accept the license agreement.
  3. Click Next >.
  4. Check that the type of install is Update and click Next >.
  5. In the Destination Folder field, check the location where the update will be installed.
  6. To install the update, click Install.
  7. To start the update, click OK.
  8. When the update is complete, click Close to close the installation window.

You can now start working in the updated version of Tekla PowerFab.
