Tekla EPM 2022 release notes

Tekla EPM 2022 introduces interesting new features.

Now the nesting and material management for splitting materials has been enhanced, and you can gain greater control of preliminary list data and revisions!

New solution to split shapes

In Tekla EPM 2022 you can now split shapes to other shapes, particularly wideflange beams to wideflange tees.

Allow a shape to be split

  1. In the Shape / Grade / Size Maintenance dialog box, click the Shape / Grade / Size Maintenance ribbon tab.

  2. Select Shape Maintenance to open the Shape Maintenance dialog box.

  3. In the shape list on left, select a shape that you want to split.

    For example, select W Wideflange Beams to be split to WT Wideflange Tees.

    Ensure that the Allow Splitting check the box is selected. Note that the Allow Splitting option is available for all linear shapes.

  4. Click Save Shape and OK.

Create split configurations

  1. In the Shape / Grade / Size Maintenance dialog box, select the W shape.

  2. On the right, select the Splits tab.

    The Splits tab is available only for shapes that have the Allow Splitting option selected.

    Most of the typical W shapes are already set to be split evenly to WT. If you select different dimensions, you will see under Description the WT sizes that the W shape has been configured to split to.

  3. To create additional split configurations, click Add.

    In the Split Configuration dialog box, create an Equal Split or an Unequal Split. You can add shapes from what is already in Shape / Grade / Size Maintenance, or add new sizes for the selected shape.

    Note that the Split Configuration dialog box allows any linear shape to be assigned and does not limit selection to only logical splits.

Combining setup for split tees

In the Combining Setup dialog box for each module, under Mult Settings - Linear Material there is now an option Allow Split T’s.

Example: Combine WTs to W in a requisition

A requisition has several WT5x15s that need to be cut from W10x30s.

  1. Run a combine on the WTs. You will notice that as a result you have close to 80’ of linear material.

  2. Switch to Manual Combine Mode.

  3. Add a 40’ W10x30.

    Note that the W10 is marked as Combined (C) even though it does not have any parts assigned to it yet.

  4. Right-click the W10x30 and select Split Selected.

    The Split Package dialog box shows which parts are available to be split from the selected material.

    There are 2 tabs, one for each WT that is being split from the W.

  5. On the first tab, move parts from the Not Included column to the Included column and vice versa.

    Use the > button for a single item, the >> button for all items, or the Qty> button to move just the entered Quantity to Add: of the selected item.

    A red message will be displayed if you exceed the length of the selected material. When you are near the limit, changing Quantity to Add: to 1 and using the Qty> and Qty< buttons can help get the most out of the material.

  6. When the split package is ready, click Add to complete the combining.

  7. Click Split Details at the bottom right to view and modify the split package.

Perform a split

Once the material to be split is received to Inventory, there are a few options for further processing.

  1. In Inventory, find the piece that has been combined to.

    For example, a W10x30 in the above example.

    Instead of a C for Combined, a T is displayed to indicate that this item will be split.

  2. Click Split Details to open the Split Package dialog box.

    There are additional options to perform the split, or to do a Take From Stock. You can use the other options to add or to remove parts and thus modify the combining.

    • If you click Perform Split:

      The stock material will be split to Result 1 and Result 2 materials, and those will be added to the inventory with their associated parts. The split materials can now be processed individually.

    • If you click TFS:

      For each split Result you can select which parts to TFS, and modify the drop length and locations and update piece tracking data.

Create a split package when combining

When doing a combining run, you can combine both to WTs (or other already split shapes) that you have in Inventory, and to splittable shapes.

Note that if the WT or other split shape is set up in your Pricing Maintenance as available from your supplier, you will need to remove the shape in Combining Run > Run-Specific Pricing Maintenance if you want to combine to splittable material. You will need to then recombine in Combining Run > Recombine All.

In the example below, the first WT is combined to an existing tee in inventory, and the others show Warehouse-T under Source to show that they will be Split From: the shape shown in the middle of the window.

Import IFC files to the Combining module

You can now import IFC files to the Combining module to be used for a preliminary list or for advance bill of material.

As a comparison to Microsoft Excel worksheets or KISS files, using IFC allows revised items to be updated, and you can report the changes (material size, quantity, and so on) during the import process.

We recommend that you use the Steel fabrication view or 2x3EM11 IFC format, but the Coordination view or standard 2x3 format works as well. Create preliminary marks in Tekla Structures, and include those in the IFC files.

  1. In Tekla EPM, click the File ribbon tab in the upper-left corner of the Tekla EPM window.
  2. In the navigation tree of the Import dialog box, select IFC under Combining.
  3. Browse to find the file you want to import, and click Open.
  4. Click Import.

    After setting up the project information, the Import Field Map dialog box allows you to map selected information from the IFC to fields in Tekla EPM. We recommend you to map at a minimum PRELIM_MARK to Reference Number. Other mapping is optional.

Cost codes for estimate items

Now the cost codes can be assigned to items in estimates and summarized in report form. Cost codes are particularly useful when supplying information to an accounting software.

  • In the Estimating module, Cost Code can be added to an item from the Cost Code field in Global Edit.

  • A Cost Code column is also available in the Estimating Grid.

  • The cost codes are also summarized in the Summary Information - To Excel report.

Improved user interface accessibility

You can now set user preferences in File > User Preferences.

Use the preferences to enable or disable sounds, and to change the way the highlight colors are displayed in grid views such as Production Status.
