Create a splice package

You can create splice packages either in the inventory or in requisitions.

To create splice packages in the inventory, see View and modify splice packages.

To create splice packages in requisitions, do the following:

  1. At the top of the Tekla EPM window, click the Purchasing button.
  2. In the Select Requisition/Purchase Order dialog box, ensure that you are on the Requisitions tab.
  3. Select a requisition and click Open.
  4. In the Requisition # dialog box, select the parts that you want to add to the splice package.

You can only select parts that are currently not included in any other splice package.

    • To select multiple items, hold down Ctrl.

    • To select a range of subsequent items, hold down Shift.

  5. Right-click and select Create new Splice Package from Selected.

The Splice Package - Add Stock/Parts dialog box opens showing a pre-populated list of parts that you selected in the previous step. At the top of the dialog box, you can see the total length that you need to compensate for.

  6. Add the required inventory pieces.
    1. Go to the Add Stock tab to see the existing inventory pieces that you have to add.

There may also be some drops available from your previous jobs.

    2. To add a drop from another job, move it to the Included list.
    3. If the available inventory cannot satisfy the required length, click Add Unpurchased.
    4. In the Add Unpurchased Stock Length dialog box, enter the lengths that you need to purchase and then click Add.
    5. When you have added all the lengths that you need, click the Add button at the bottom of the Splice Package - Add Stock/Parts dialog box.
  7. When Tekla EPM asks what you want to do with the unpurchased stock, click Purchase Order.
  8. In the Select Purchase Order dialog box, select a purchase order and click OK.

Alternatively, you can click Add to create a new purchase order. After opening the purchase order, the Splice Package dialog box opens. At the top of the dialog box, you can check the details of the finalized splice package, including the shape, grade, dimension, and total length. You can also see what percentage of the splice package you are currently utilizing.

  9. In the PO # dialog box, mark the purchase order items as received.
  10. In the Splice Package dialog box, select an inventory item and click TFS.

The Splice Package - TFS dialog box opens. Here you can see the stock lengths that you are using, the parts to be cut, and the drops. If you have additional drops available, you can set a location to define where you want the drop to go.

    1. On the Stock to TFS tab, move the stock records that are to be utilized to the Included list.
    2. On the Parts to TFS tab, move the parts that are to be cut from that stock to the Included list.
    3. On the Drop tab, enter the drop location.

The drop length will populate with the amount calculated from the total included stock and part length. If some stock or parts are not included, they will remain in this splice package to be processed at another time.

    4. If you want the drop to remain reserved for this splice package, go to the Drop tab and check the Add Back to Splice Pkg check box.
  11. If multiple stock records are used with different heat cert details, go to the Drop tab and define the supplier, purchase order number, and heat number to assign to the drop in the Drop Details list.

Now you can add the splice package to a cut list in the Production Control module, just like any other inventory nesting. On the cut list screen, the splice package will appear with the total stock length. When a splice package is selected, the Cut button opens the Splice Package - TFS dialog box, instead of the regular cut list processing dialog box.
