Define combining optimizations for a requisition

You can define requisition-specific settings for material optimization.

You are in the Purchasing module. You are either creating a new job or modifying an existing job in the Requisition Edit dialog box.

  1. Click Combining Optimizations.

The Combining Setup dialog box opens.

  2. Modify the settings on the various tabs as needed.

Define the general settings

  1. Go to the General Settings tab.
  2. Modify the settings as needed.
    Option Description
Use Grade Substitutions Select to check for material in inventory that has an alternative grade to the one specified.

Only grades of an equal or higher rating will be used as set in Maintenance > Shapes/Grades/Sizes > Shape/Grade/Size Maintenance dialog box.

If the grade substitutions are not set, the material grades in the combining run and in the supplier pricing data set or the inventory need to match each other exactly.

Combine Only Within Sequence Select if you want to mult and nest only materials that are in the same sequence onto the inventory items or purchasable lengths.

The selection of Combine Only Within Sequence uses additional material for each sequence. This may be desirable in some cases, but it may also lead to excess drop amounts.

Optimizations Not Included/Optimizations Included Allows you to select the optimization options that you want to use by moving them to the Optimizations Included list using the arrow buttons.
Inventory Exact-Match (In Stock) Use this option for inventory items in stock that are an exact match without the use of kerf or clamp allowance.
Inventory Exact-Match (On Order) Use this option for inventory items that are on purchase orders and have not yet been received and that are an exact match without the use of kerf or clamp allowance.
Inventory Least-Scrap (On Order) Use this option for inventory items that are on purchase orders and have not yet been received and that will provide the least amount of scrap.
Inventory Least-Scrap (In Stock) Use this option for inventory items in stock that will provide the least amount of scrap.
Warehouse Least-Scrap Use this option to give preference to warehouse items that will provide the least amount of scrap. Warehouse items will only be used when they provide less scrap than the available inventory items or no inventory exists.
Warehouse Force Inventory Use this option to force the use of inventory items if available regardless of the amount of scrap, no matter where it is located in the Optimizations Included list. This option is the opposite of Warehouse Least-Scrap.

Note that you can only include Warehouse Least-Scrap or Warehouse Force Inventory, not both.

  3. Modify the order of the optimizations by using the Move Up and Move Down buttons.

The order is important when you are performing a combining run.

  4. Do either of the following:
    • Click Save.

The Combining Setup dialog box closes.

    • Continue to add or modify properties.

Define multing settings

  1. Go to the Mult Settings - Linear Material tab.
  2. Modify the settings as needed.
    Option Description
Apply Kerf Select if you want to apply the material kerf settings defined in Shape/Grade/Size Maintenance to the combining as part of the cutting pattern.
Allow Split T's Select to allow split tees.
  3. Do either of the following:
    • Click Save.

The Combining Setup dialog box closes.

    • Continue to add or modify properties.

Define plate nesting settings

  1. Go to the Plate Nesting Settings tab.
  2. Modify the settings as needed.
    Option Description
Shear Cut Optimization Select a suitable shear cut option. The selected option determines the plate allowance to be used with the combining:
    • None: Use when cutting plate on a burn table.
    • Shear Cut - First Cut Along Length or Shear Cut - First Cut Along Width: Use to alert Tekla PowerFab that the nesting needs to allow for that type of cut first. Then, the nesting will allow for all subsequent cuts to be made with that condition.
Apply Kerf Select if you want to apply the material kerf settings defined in Shape/Grade/Size Maintenance to the combining as part of the cutting pattern.
Rotate Plates for Best Fit Select if the material grain direction is unimportant and you want Tekla PowerFab to create the best possible optimization of a plate.
  3. Do either of the following:
    • Click Save.

The Combining Setup dialog box closes.

    • Continue to add or modify properties.

When you click Save, the Combining optimizations settings are saved.
