About Tekla Model Sharing licenses
Tekla Model Sharing licenses are purchased as a yearly subscription. Tekla Model Sharing licenses can be named single-user licenses or floating licenses.
Tekla Model Sharing is not available to users without a valid license. Keep track of the number of licenses and users, and your license expiration dates to ensure continued service.
Tekla Model Sharing licenses are delivered and managed in the Tekla Online Admin Tool. When the licenses have been delivered, the person who is the named contact for your company receives a license notification by email. As an administrator, you can use the Tekla Online Admin Tool to assign named single-user licenses to users, or to control who is allowed to use floating licenses.
To allow users who are not employees of your company to access your Tekla Model Sharing licenses, add them as external license users. Do not add users who do not work directly for your company to your organization as employees.
Named single-user licenses for Tekla Model Sharing
The Tekla Model Sharing Worldwide license is a named single-user license. If you have named single-user licenses for Tekla Model Sharing, each user must have their own Trimble Identity and license. You must separately assign a license to each user. You can only assign as many Tekla Model Sharing licenses as you have purchased.
Floating licenses for Tekla Model Sharing
If you have floating licenses for Tekla Model Sharing, you can give any number of users access to access to your organization's Tekla Model Sharing license pool. The number of licenses that you have determines the maximum number of concurrent users on a first-come-first-served basis.
How to estimate the number of floating licenses needed
Different people can use the same floating license at different times, but you must keep track of how many licenses are needed at peak usage. You can estimate the number of licenses needed by counting the number of users who are currently working on projects that use Tekla Model Sharing.
If you do not have enough licenses available for all users who try to access Tekla Model Sharing at the same time, some users see a message that all license seats are reserved.
You can view statistics about current and past Tekla Model Sharing license usage on the Statistics page.
How floating license seats are reserved and released
A license seat is reserved when a user launches a Tekla Model Sharing operation. If a user joins Tekla Model Sharing from several devices, the user reserves a separate Tekla Model Sharing license seat for each device. Users can work on a shared model offline without reserving a Tekla Model Sharing license seat.
Tekla Model Sharing licenses are automatically released when the user closes Tekla Structures, changes to working on a model that is not shared, or disconnects from the Tekla Model Sharing service.
If a user is an employee in a different organization and an external license user in your organization, Tekla Model Sharing reserves a license seat in your organization by default. If no licenses are available your organization's license pool, Tekla Model Sharing reserves a license seat in the user's own organization.
Tekla Online organization membership and access rights in Tekla Model Sharing
The Tekla Online organization that a user belongs to also affects the user's access to the organization's Tekla Model Sharing models.
Access rights are assigned based on the combination of the user account and the organization to which the user belongs. If a user joins a different Tekla Online organization, separate access rights are given to the user in the new Tekla Online organization.
The user's email address must be unique between organizations. If a user's organization changes, the email address for their user account must also be changed. We recommend that users use a company email address from the same email domain as the other users in the organization.
Changing the user's Tekla Online organization membership changes the access rights for the user's account in Tekla Model Sharing.

Controlling access to your organization's shared models
As an administrator, you can also separately control access to shared models that are owned by your organization in Tekla Model Sharing using the Management Console for Tekla Model Sharing. This access control applies only to the specific shared models:
-
The user does not need to be an employee in your Tekla Online organization or any other organization to access the shared models that you allow them to access.
-
Joining your Tekla Online organization does not automatically give the user access to any shared models.
-
Removing a user from your Tekla Online organization automatically removes their access to the shared models that were granted to them while they were in your organization.
-
To prevent users outside of your Tekla Online organization from accessing shared models that you have granted them access to, you must remove their access in Management Console for Tekla Model Sharing.
