Why are there steel sections in TSD and Tedds which are either not in the 'blue book' or have different properties?
Why are there steel sections in Tekla Structural Designer and Tekla Tedds which are either not in the 'blue book' or have different properties?
Answer
The "SCI Blue Book" is not kept up to date at the same cadence that manufacturers publish their catalogues, therefore you may find sections listed in Tekla Structural Designer and Tekla Tedds with different properties or availability from the SCI Blue Book. For example, the last major update to the section profile database in Tekla products was done in 2023 for "New British Steel Catalogues for long products 2022", this includes new sections such as UC 305 x 305 x 107 and UC 305 x 205 x 226 and differences in the root radii values for some UC sections.
The BCSA and SCI are not planning to change the Blue Book. The major section changes are in the Advance sections which are proprietary (i.e. not in the BS 10365). In addition, BS 10365 does not give root radii so individual manufacturers can choose their rollers to suit their manufacturing processes.
