When using Word 2007, Word 2010 or Word 2013 the Tedds variables associated with a document can be embedded directly within the Word document which provides several benefits:
- Documents do not require a separate ".vbl" file
- Documents can be easily shared via email
- Documents can be easily saved to cloud storage services such as SkyDrive or DropBox
- Documents can be saved in Word 2013 using the built in support for SkyDrive
- Documents can be easily stored in document management systems such as Microsoft Sharepoint
- Documents are compatible with Word's AutoRecover feature
- Documents are compatible with Word's Backup Copy feature
To enable the option to embed variables for new documents:
- Run Tedds for Word
- On the Ribbon select the Tedds Tab, go to the Tools group, click More then click Tedds Options
- Select Environment\General and then for Saving variables select the option Embed variables in the document.
Note: If you use Word 2013 you will be automatically prompted to enable embedded variables the first time you save a document.
To change the option to embed variables for an existing document:
- Open the document you want to change
- On the Ribbon select the Tedds Tab, go to the Tools group, click the drop down button of the Variables button
- Select the Embed Variables command to toggle the embed variables option On/Off
Warning! Documents with embedded variables must not be modified using Word 2003 or versions of Tedds prior to Tedds 2013 SP1 because the variables will be lost when the document is saved.
