Question

I am getting a “too few nodes in rigid diaphragm” error for a Mat foundation I created. I note that the Mat is not meshing for some reason when viewing the Solver scene view and presume this is why there are insufficient nodes?

Answer

To form a rigid diaphragm there must be at least three non-collinear nodes (that are not supports).

A Mat foundation actually has supports at every node so a diaphragm is not necessary/possible to construct.

The solution is to select the Mat slab and uncheck the Include in Diaphragm option. A Mat is meshed in the 3D analysis, so will act as a diaphragm without the (rigid) diaphragm setting applied.
