How do I create User Defined Attributes for use in new and existing models?

As you have seen, some User Defined Attributes (UDAs) already exist for you to use. You can edit or add to these by creating your own set of UDAs.
  • For New models, they are accessible prior to creating a new model file from the Home ribbon> Settings Group > Settings command.
  • For Existing models, they are accessible via the Home ribbon > Project Group > Model Settings command.

Step 3. Open the Home ribbon >Settings group > Settings command and review the User Defined Attributes page

Note: These UDA's will be used on any new model created using this settings set.

Creating your own User Defined Attribute Value List

  1. Buttons exist within the dialog to Add, Delete or adjust the order of the defined UDA's by Move Up or Move Down. These change the order they are seen in the Properties window.
  2. The Name can be any description you want.
  3. The Type can be either a Text, Number or a File .
  4. The Source can either be a Custom Value defined in the Properties window or picked from a predefined Value List which is then displayed in the Values column of the dialog.

Step 5. Click Add to define a new UDA, Provide Name = Beam Type, Type = Text, Source = Value List and then click in the Values column in the row and create some typical steel beam locations in the model as the screenshot below
