Upgrading to Tekla on-demand license administration tool 2020 SP1

Tekla Structures
Not version-specific
Tekla Structures

What does this upgrade do?

This update is required for all Tekla on-demand license servers.

Tekla on-demand license administration tool 2020 SP1 makes Tekla on-demand license administration tool compatible with the new and improved Trimble Identity and the latest Transport Layer Security (TLS) protocol version 1.2.

Discontinuation of old Trimble Identity on 2021-08-30

The Trimble Identity version change affects the license activation and return only, otherwise the Tekla on-demand licensing service keeps running normally. You can still use Tekla Structures, and the license consumption is reported back to Trimble as usual.

After this date, you can still activate or return your license using your existing version of Tekla on-demand license administration tool or Tekla on-demand license server, but the sign-in will be redirected to the new Trimble Identity and it looks slightly different. The sign-in redirect will be discontinued some time in the future, we will inform the date in advance.

For more information on the improvements to Trimble Identity, see Sign-in changes in Tekla products and services. For Tekla Structures specific information with the timeline of these changes, see Sign-in changes in Tekla Structures.

Discontinuation of old Transport Layer Security protocols on 2022-01-31

The old Transport Layer Security (TLS) protocols, 1.0 and 1.1, were deprecated in 2020 for security reasons. The Tekla on-demand license administration tool will discontinue the support for the old protocols to be compliant with security requirements.

After this date, the Tekla on-demand license administration tool version 2020 and older will stop working. You need to upgrade to the Tekla on-demand license administration tool 2020 SP1 to continue the Tekla on-demand license usage and license consumption reporting.

Virtual server snapshots and clone suspects

These instructions apply if you do an in-place Tekla on-demand license administration tool upgrade installation, and take a snapshot of the virtual server computer.

The licensing technology is able to detect that a server has been cloned. This might lead to a situation where the Tekla back office server will deny the permission from Tekla on-demand licensing service to run because of a clone suspect. As you configure the logging level as Full, the Clone Suspect status (True/False) can be found from the tekla-framework log file.

We recommend that you do not upgrade the Tekla on-demand license administration tool on a server that is a clone of the actual server.

      Check the internal firewall settings

After the upgrade, you may need to change your firewall settings. For details about the firewall requirements, see Tekla on-demand licensing 2020 instructions, section For administrators - Hardware and software recommendations > Other infrastructure.
