What changed in the Tekla Structural Update Service 2024?

The online Tekla Download service is now used to determine whether software updates are available. The FlexNet Connect online service, the FlexNet Connect Software Manager and the FlexNet Connect Agent - which were previously part of the Update Service - are no longer used or supported by Tekla products.

Will the FlexNet Connect software be removed from my device when I upgrade to the Tekla Structural Update Service 2024?

Yes.

Why was the FlexNet Connect software not removed from my device when I upgraded to the Tekla Structural Update Service 2024?

There are circumstances when the FlexNet Connect software is not automatically removed including:

• If you have software from other vendors on your device registered with the FlexConnect software.
• If any product from Tekla or other software vendors that used FlexNet Connect was previously installed on your device and wasn’t uninstalled correctly.

Will Tekla Tedds notify me when a software update is available?

Tekla Tedds will use the online Tekla Download service to check for updates, if the Tedds option to enable the Update Service and the option to Check for updates when starting Tedds are both enabled (the default). The first time you launch either the Tedds application or the Library Access System each day, Tedds will check online using the Tekla Download service.  If any updates are available a notification message will appear in the status bar of those applications.

Will Tekla Structural Designer notify me when a software update is available?

Tekla Structural Designer will use the online Tekla Download service to check for updates, if the Enable Update Service option is enabled (the default). The first time you launch Tekla Structural Designer each day, the software will check online using the Tekla Download service.  If any updates are available a notification  message will appear in the Process window.

Why is FlexNet Connect no longer used?

The vendor has discontinued the FlexNet software.

Which versions of the Tekla Structural Update Service use FlexNet Connect?

Versions 1.00 through 1.06 of the Tekla Structural Update Service use the FlexNet Connect software.

When will the FlexNet Connect Online Service be switched off?

Tekla’s online FlexNet Connect service will be switched off on June 12th 2024. From this date onward the FlexNet Connect software manager will not be able to determine whether any notifications or software updates are available.

Did Tekla issue an End of Life service announcement?

Yes.  For more information refer to the March 28th 2024 announcement at Tekla End of Life Announcements.

Is there still an equivalent to the FlexNet Connect Software Manager?

No.

In Tekla Tedds how can I check whether any software updates are available?

>In the Tedds Application:

• On the ribbon select the Help tab
• Click the Check for Updates command

>In Tedds for Word

• On the ribbon select the Tedds tab
• In the Tools group open the Help menu 
• Click the Check for Updates command

In Tekla Structural Designer how can I check whether any software updates are available?

• On the ribbon select the Home tab
• In the Updates group click the Check for Updates command

When I use the check for update command what happens if a software update is available?

If there are no software updates available you will see the following message:

If you do not have the latest version of any of the installation components for the current major release version of the software you are using, your default web browser will be opened at the correct location in Tekla Downloads (sign in is required) where you can choose to download and install updates. Please note that there may be more than one update available - we recommend installing all the latest updates.

If there is a new major release version of the software available you will see the following message:

Why do I have to download and install each update separately? Previously,  the Tekla Structural Update Service allowed me to use the Software Manager to install multiple updates together?

Tekla Downloads is a web page running in your web browser which for security reasons doesn’t have access to your device, therefore it cannot automatically download and install the software updates for you.
