Subscription license release issues in Tekla Structures including the “All in Use” Message

Overview

Some users might encounter an issue when trying to use their subscription license on a device where the license appears as unavailable or all in use. This issue typically happens when the license is not properly released, for example due to:

• Loss of internet connectivity, including slow or unstable internet connection
• Having multiple instances of the same version of Tekla Structures open
• The software not being actively used for an extended period
• Not clearing the checkbox to keep the license reserved when closing Tekla Structures. (You can control the default behavior with the XS_DEFAULT_KEEP_ONLINE_LICENSE_CHECKBOX advanced option.)

Note: If you use more than one version of Tekla Structures, you must release the subscription license in all versions where it is reserved.

Recommendations

• Always use the latest service pack for the version of Tekla Structures that you are running.
• Ensure that your system has the latest Windows updates installed.

Scenario in version 2020 and earlier

When attempting to use the subscription license, the following message might appear in a pop up window: “There is no available license for this user. Please log in”

Scenario in versions 2021 and newer

When attempting to use the subscription license, the following message might appear in the configuration drop-down list: “<License name> / Tekla Structures Subscription License - All in use (on device <device name>)”

Steps to Release the License

Tekla Structures 2021 and newer

1. Open a model and click Save.

2. Clear the option to keep the license reserved.

3. Close Tekla Structures.

Tekla Structures 2020

Tekla Structures 2020 SP14 contains a fix for this issue. If you use Tekla Structures 2020, we recommend that you install SP14. 

To release the license in earlier Tekla Structures 2020 service packs, follow these steps:

1. Open a model and click Save.
2. Click your username.

3. Clear the Stay signed in the checkbox.

4. Close Tekla Structures.

Tekla Structures 2019i and 2019

1. Open a model.

2. Click your username and clear the Stay Signed in the checkbox.

3. Close Tekla Structures.

Verified workaround

If the license is still not released especially for older versions 2019, 2019i and 2020 up to SP13, follow the workaround suggested below:

Recommended: Open your Tekla Online profile before exiting Tekla Structures.

This workaround is recommended if the issue occurs frequently.

1. In Tekla Structures, click your username and select Open my profile.
   Your Tekla Online profile opens in a web browser.
2. In Tekla Structures, click your user name, then deselect Stay signed in.
3. Exit Tekla Structures.
   The subscription license is released.
