Setup in Tekla PowerFab

The Tekla PowerFab to Shop Data Integration eliminates manual double-entry of parts and stock in Tekla PowerFab that are to be nested by Shop Data Systems.

See also Shop Data Systems: Nest plates in the Tekla PowerFab Product Guide.

To enable the Shop Data Integration from Tekla PowerFab, go to Maintenance > Integration Settings > Shop Data Systems.

Workflow

Use this integration from a combining run in Tekla PowerFab.

Combining Runs can be created from the Combining, Estimating, Production Control, Purchase Order, or Requisition modules.

For example, in Production Control, select Combine on the Production Control ribbon tab.

To create a nest, click Nest.

Click Optimizations and, on the Plate Nesting Settings tab, select ShopData as the Plate Nesting Software.

This can also be set as the default in Maintenance > Production Control > Company Standards under Combining Optimizations.

To select an inventory to use, click INV.
Click NEST.

The Nesting Run will show All parts Not Combined.

Save the combining run.

Results from ShopData must be imported into this same combining run, not a copy of it.

Export the parts to Shop Data for Nesting (Combing Run dropdown > Export Parts for Nesting > Export to Shop Data Systems).

Inventory available to this combining run (including what is orderable) will import to Shop Data. Orderable Inventory will show up as Just-In-Time Stock.

In Shop Data Systems, click MRP Exchange Manager.

If this isn't available from the main window contact Shop Data Systems support.

Imports from Tekla PowerFab have an Import Project Name beginning with "FabSuite [version]WorkOrder_".

Choose the correct work order, and click Release to ShopData.

ShopData will then import the parts and stock necessary for this Work Order.

Open the job in Job Manager (Order/Job Processing), click Nest Settings, select an option (All or Selection), and click OK. Under Nest Settings, verify that Auto-use Tail Stock and Auto Create Remnants are selected.

Select the stock for this nest from the list that Tekla PowerFab sent.

JIT Stock are sizes from the Run-Specific Pricing in Tekla PowerFab.

Then create the Nest.

Open the MRP Exchange manager again, and click Retrieve from ShopData on the Results Data tab.

Note the MRPImportID of the Work Order, on the left.

Retrieving results creates a file in your Shop Data Directory. It will be named "ResultsForImportID-" followed by the MRPImportID from the MRP Exchange screen.

From the combining run in Tekla PowerFab, choose Combining > Import Nested Parts.

Select the proper file from the Shop Data Directory.

By default this directory is C:\Users\Public\Documents\Shop Data Systems\ShopData_v4.2\Jobs.

This will bring in the results of the combining run with Shop Data Sytems performing the nest rather than Tekla PowerFab. To view the nests, select a line item at the top of the Combining Run Results and click View Nest

To save the combining results, click Save Displayed Results & Close. If the nest was performed on current inventory, the nests will be applied to the plates in inventory. Otherwise you will be prompted to add the required plates to a Requisition or Purchase Order:
