Shipping routes walkthrough
With Shipping Routes, Tekla PowerFab assumes that all items originate at the fabricators shop and will complete shipping at the jobsite. No shipping route is needed when there are no other destinations.
When other destinations are required, a shipping route needs to be assigned to those parts. The pieces are then allowed to be shipped in the assigned routed order.
We will review the following steps:
- Create a shipping Route
- Assign parts to the route
- Load truck for first destination
- Load Truck for 2nd destination
- Return Items
- Ship to jobsite
Create a shipping route

The shipping route steps are these:
- Name the route
- Name and save the destination group.
- Add all required Firms to the destination group.
- Repeat steps 2 and 3 for all destinations
- Save route
A new dialog box appears for each step.
The basic path is always the same:
1. Name the route.
2. Name and save the destination groups.
3. Save the route.
Each step is shown by screenshots and description.
1. Click to highlight the Production Control job, then click Edit.

2. In the Production Control Job Edit dialog box, click Shipping Routes.

3. Click New at the lower right of the Shipping Routes Maintenance dialog box.

4. Enter the new Shipping Route Description name.
5. Click Add.
6. Enter the Destination Group name.
7. Click Save Destination.

8. Select Destination Group, click Add Firm.
9. Select Firm Type and Firm Name, click OK.

10. For the next destination, click Add.
11. Type in the Destination Group name and click Add Firm.
When a return shipping ticket is required from a vendor location back to the shop, My Company is used for the address book selection.

12. Select Firm type and Firm Name, click OK.
13. Returning to the Shipping Destination Properties dialog box, click Save Destination.

14. After the last destination is saved, click Save Route, returning to the Select Production Control Job dialog box.

Click to highlight the job, then click Open, press F5 on the keyboard, or just double-click. All ways will open your project.

With the production control job open, click the Production Control ribbon tab, select Modify Data and then Global Edit on the menu.

In the Production Control Global Edit Filters dialog box, click to highlight a filter item, then click Select. When not filtering, click OK.

In the Global Edit dialog box, select the Shipping Route checkbox, select the route in the drop-down menu, and click OK. The Confirm dialog box opens.
Click Yes to continue.

The items are now ready for the first destination.
Returning to the Production Control dialog box, click the Production Control ribbon tab and select Load Tracking.
In the Loads dialog box, click New Load.

The first destination load process:
- Enter shipping ticket data
- Select parts to be loaded
- Save and ship
In the Load Properties dialog box, select the Destination Group and To.
Click Save.

Click Add Material on the right side of the dialog box.
Double-click the parts or click to highlight a group of materials and then click the arrow buttons to move items to the Included side of the list.
Click Add Material button at the lower right.
Returning to the Load Properties dialog box, click Ship.
Shipping documents can now be viewed, printed, and emailed.

Load truck for 2nd destination
Click New Load to load parts for the next destination.
Enter the next Destination Group, select To, select To Be Returned, and click Save.
Click the top center Add Material tab. In the Add Material dialog box, select parts, click Add Material at the lower right.

The 2nd destination load process:
- Enter shipping ticket data
- Select To be Returned
- Select parts to be loaded
- Save and ship
All job-site-bound items will be available for shipment after the return event is recorded.
Click the right side Add Material button.
Double-click the parts or click to highlight a group of materials and then click arrow buttons to move items to the Included side of the list.
Click Add Material at the lower right.
Returning to the Load Properties dialog box, click Ship button.
Shipping documents can now be viewed, printed, and emailed.

Return items
In the Loads dialog box, click to highlight the load with returning items, and then click Load Properties.
In Load Properties, enter the Date Received, click Save.
Go to the Material tab.

Click to select returning items, click Return.
In the Confirm dialog box, click to select return date, click OK, click Save.
Click the top right red ‘X’ to close.
The next load and last load is going to the job site.
This return activity verifies all the routed items have returned to the shop.
All job-site-bound material at the shop will then be available for the next load.
If the To be Returned step is missed, the Material selection for the job-site load will only include items that are currently at the ‘Shop’ location.

Ship to job site
Click New Load to open the sLoad Properties dialog box.

Click to select the Destination Group and other load information, click Save.
Click Add Material.
Select material, click Add Material, returning to the Load Properties dialog box.
Click Ship, and then select the ship date, click OK.
Click Save.
Shipping tickets can now be printed.

Summary
We have completed the step-by-step instructions for the following shipping activity:
- Built a shipping route
- Assigned parts to the route
- Loaded trucks for first destination
- Loaded Trucks for 2nd destination, marked ‘Return’
- Return Items
- Shipped to the job site
Each load must be shipped in the order of the assigned route.
When shipping locations are not executed in the routed order, those parts will not be available in the ‘material’ dialog box for selection.
The last shipment prior to Job site shipment must be ‘Returned’. The ‘Return’ function verifies parts have returned to the shop, making them available to load with all job site bound items.
