To correctly display round objects as truly round in a Tekla Structures model, a number of advanced options are available. By using these advanced options, you can affect the representation of roundings of different object types in Tekla Structures. Using several examples, we will explain how these advanced options can be set. In some cases, the objects are more complex and a combination of advanced options settings is required.

The limit for the number of points that can be modeled for an object, for example a contour plate, in Tekla Structures is 99. If the geometry of the shapes becomes too complex, it is possible that the maximum number of points is reached, causing the shape to “break”.

Also keep in mind that the performance/speed of roundings decreases as the accuracy of roundings increases, so use values for the different advanced options that provide the best result.

We recommend adjusting the discussed advanced options before starting a project and not changing them in ongoing projects due to (differences in) part numbering.

Advanced option XS_CS_CHAMFER_DIVIDE_ANGLE

In Tekla Structures, you have access to the advanced option XS_CS_CHAMFER_DIVIDE_ANGLE in the Advanced options (via File > Settings > Advanced options category Speed and accuracy).

This advanced option defines the maximum angle deviation per segment in roundings in profiles that use a cross section.

With a value of 10, the angle deviation will be a maximum of 10 degrees per segment,
depending on the required number of segments to create the rounding. The default is 30 degrees.

Bolt holes

The way to set the rounding of bolt holes is via View properties > Display > Settings. For the Holes option, the following choices are available: Fast, Exact, and Exact slotted holes.
