Rotate template (tpl)

Question:

How can we rotate a graphical template (tpl.)?

Answer:

You can rotate the graphical template (*.tpl) with the help of new Layout editor option which allows you to edit the layout of a drawing directly on a drawing.

Layout editor is available from Tekla structures 2017 Service pack 3 onwards.

You can open the layout editor with any one of the following methods:

Method 1:
1) Select the table (Template)
2) Double click on the table
3) The dialog box shown below appears

4) Click Edit drawing layout.

Method 2:
When you have the drawing open, go to File > Editors > Layout editor.

Method 3:
1) Select the Table (Template)
2) Right click and select Open Layout Editor

you can also open the Layout editor from the side pane as shown in the image below.

If you keep the switch Show hidden table on in the Layout editor, the table name (drawing_title_ga) will be visible.

This allows you two options for rotating your table.

Option 1:
1) Select the table (=template)

2) Right-click and select Rotate clockwise.

3) Repeat the Rotate clockwise command until you get the desired table rotation.

Option 2:
4) Select the table.
5) Go to the Layout editor dialog box in the side pane.
 Select the required rotation angle from the Rotation list.

Click Save as from the right top corner of the Layout editor.

You can then choose the desired option from the dialogue box that appears.


• Overwrite current layout: Save the modified layout with the old name. If the layout has been used by other drawings, those drawings will get updated.

• Create a new layout with a name: Save the new or modified layout with another name. If the name is already in use, you will be notified.

Finally, you can close the Layout editor by clicking Close in the Layout editor or
by selecting any layout from the drawing and then right clicking Close Layout editor.

If you created a new layout by clicking Save as,  you will get the new layout in the Drawing properties > Layout>
Drawing Size  > Table layout.

You can also discard the changes if you don’t want to save the changes in the layout.

Additional Info:

1) You can move the template in drawing from one location to another location
by using the Move option with the help of this layout editor.
