Updating settings
When you start using Tekla Structures 2018i, you can keep using your personal settings made in an earlier Tekla Structures version. You can save your personal settings in the folder ts to make these settings available in all models.
When you copy personal settings from the folder ts from an earlier Tekla Structures version to the new folder ts, be sure to check what kind of settings you are copying, especially the settings which have been copied for several Tekla Structures versions.
You possibly need to update these settings for the new Tekla Structures version because settings can differ per version, for example as a result of new added functionalities or user-defined attributes. You can also sort the files by date to find out how old the settings are. Tekla Structures does not copy the files automatically, you need to copy them manually.
When you have created settings in earlier Tekla Structures versions, for example for system components...
...you need to check these settings and update (save) the settings to make them up-to-date for Tekla Structures 2018i.

Redesigned customization tools for ribbon, property pane and user-defined commands
In Tekla Structures 2018i, the customization tools for ribbon, property pane and user-defined commands have been completely redesigned.
The refreshed tools with uniform design offer simpler and smoother workflow for your customization of Tekla Structures. Previously, all the customization tools were in the same Customize dialog box. Now each customization tool has its own editor:
Click here for detailed information about the new dialog boxes.

Improved representation for welded parts in model views
The representation for welded parts in model views has been improved to easily check whether it concerns welded parts or loose parts:
Tekla Structures 2018i Earlier Tekla Structures versions
Because of this some default model view settings have changed:
You can still use the list id_loose-parts to find the loose parts in the model, if desired in combination with the plate_filter to only display loose plates in the list. The main feature of ID lists is that the lines in the lists containing objects (such as plates) can be selected. Subsequently, the accompanying object will highlight in the model.

Input for profiles changed
Lower cases are now automatically converted to capital letters when you enter profiles in the concerned part properties dialog boxes:

Property pane for cut, chamfer, surface treatment, surface, and point properties
Since Tekla Structures 2018 many model objects (such as columns and beams, items, bolts, welds, components, reinforcement, rebar sets, pour objects, pour units and pour breaks, construction objects, assemblies and cast units) included the new property pane in the Model Editor:
In Tekla Structures 2018i, you can now also access the properties of cuts, chamfers, surface treatment, surfaces, and points in the property pane:

2. To hide a switch, click the name of the switch in the list. The selected switch becomes hidden on the toolbar and the eye button changes:
3. To make the switch visible again, click the hidden switch in the list.
Distribute the customized toolbars
The customized toolbars are saved in the folder ..\Users\<user>\AppData\Local\Trimble\TeklaStructures\<version>\Toolbars as .json files.
Company administrators can distribute the customized toolbars to the whole organization, in the same way as customized ribbons or property pane layouts. Place the customized toolbar files in a folder called \Toolbars in a project, firm, or environment folder.
If you distribute the customized toolbar files, the files in ..\Users\<user>\AppData\Local\Trimble\TeklaStructures\<version>\Toolbars have the highest priority in the search order, and after that Tekla Structures uses the default search order.

Show parts in a selected view angle
Columns, beams, plates, panels, slabs, and footings now have a new View angle option on the contextual toolbar.
You can set the part view angle by selecting a top, back, right, bottom, front, or left view of the part. The part is instantly shown in the desired angle and the view is zoomed in, making it faster and easier to examine the selected part:
To return to the original 3D view, click the button in the middle of the view angle options:
The view angle is based on the selected part's coordinate system so that the top view is looking to the negative z-direction.

Dialog box Weld improved
Dialog box Weld is improved so that the options Above line and Below line are now side by side in two columns:
You can also link together the Above line and Below line property values and keep them synchronized when you change values in either of the columns. To copy values from one column to the other, use the

buttons. To link together the Above line and Below line property values, or to unlink the values, click the
button. When the values are linked, the middle button is yellow. This means that if you change a value in either of the columns, the corresponding value in the other column also changes.
You can now modify one-sided polygon welds using Direct modification:

Bolt-nut-washer report (74)
More often, Tekla Structures user want to apply 2 washers at the head of the bolt, for example a lock washer, a plastic washer or a star washer:
In system component Bolt-nut-washer report (74) you can use a conversion file so that different types of washers or nuts are displayed and counted correct in the list within one bolt group.
Step plan
1. Create a new washer in the Bolt catalog (via File > Catalogs > Bolt catalog) by entering a thickness for two washers you want to use, for example WASHER-M16-7089-DOUBLE with standard 7089-DOUBLE.
2. Use the standard 7089-DOUBLE in the Bolt Assembly Catalog as a washer at the head of the bolt in an existing or a new bolt assembly:
In the model, the washer WASHER-M16-7089-DOUBLE represents actually two washers, a lock washer and a plastic washer. That is the reason for a thickness of 6 mm for this washer. Because of this also a correct bolt length is calculated in Tekla Structures.
In system component Bolt-nut-washer report (74) you can define the conversion for the washer 7089-DOUBLE to 2 washers in the conversion file conversion_rules.txt:
O = original standard name
C = customer.
The conversion file includes the rules for the replacement for the defined washer in the bolt catalog to two washers in the output.
In this example a washer with the standard 7089-DOUBLE is been converted to two washers: washer 125A and WASHER-P.
In the model nothing changes, in the generated report (by using system component Bolt-nut-washer report (74) the converted washers are displayed:
On the tab Conversion you can define the location of the conversion file, for example the folder ts or the model folder:

System components Joining plates (14), Stiffened end plate (27), Seating cap (37), Seating (39), Partial stiff end plate (65), Two sided end plate (142) and End plate (144) now include a new option Bolt Type on tab Holes:
The Bolt Type is set to Site by default with respect to the representation of zinc holes in drawings combined with the drawing classifier.
The above-mentioned system components include settings with entered default values for the size of the holes (Ø14 or Ø18) and center to center distances.

Improvements in unfolding bent plates and polybeams
Tekla Structures 2018i includes several new advanced options for unfolding bent plates and polybeams (single part drawings created by using the setting unfolded):
Use the advanced option XS_DRAW_BENDING_END_LINES_IN_UNFOLDING to draw bending end lines when creating an unfolded single part drawing. For polybeams, the lines will be drawn only if the polybeam has circular shape chamfers.
Use the advanced option XS_DRAW_BENDING_END_LINE_DIMENSIONS_IN_UNFOLDING to create bending end line dimensions.
Use the advanced option XS_USE_UP_DOWN_SIGN_INDICATOR_FOR_ANGLE_IN_UNFOLDING to TRUE to show Up and Down text instead of positive and negative angles in unfolded single-part drawings for angle dimensions. In case the advanced option is set to FALSE, the text is displayed as follows:
