Question:
In case of vertically sloped rebars, it is not clear how the “On plane” and “From plane” settings affect the position of rebars.

Answer:
1) The 'From plane' distance is measured in the same direction as the direction of the range of reinforcement, (given by the last two clicks when modeling rebar groups).

2) The 'On plane' direction depends firstly on the 'plane' of the rebar, which is given by the shape of the bar.

a) In case of a straight longitudinal bar, the plane can be in any direction around segment of the bar, but TS chooses what it thinks would be the best, which is perpendicular to the range of reinforcement (X-Z in picture).

b) When you create a bent bar (right side of the picture), the plane is confined to be on the X-Y plane, because it has two or more different segment directions.

This is why for the bent bar, the “From plane” and “On plane” directions seem to be the same, although they are not exactly the same. See top right corner of the picture.
