Problems running Tekla Tedds & Tekla Structural Designer on older operating systems

When trying to run Tekla Tedds or Tekla Structural Designer you may experience a System Error related to api-ms-win-crt-runtime-l1-1-0.dll.

Although the message is reporting "api-ms-win-crt-runtime-l1-1-0.dll" is missing this is not the case, it's related to other system files not being up to date.

Other symptoms

You may not always see the above error message - the software may crash on launch or not appear to run at all.

Information

Tekla Tedds and Tekla Structural Designer are written on the latest version of of Microsoft development tools and this requires additional Microsoft redistributables which we package in our installation. This issue arises when one of the system inter-dependencies, required by these redistributables, is not up to date which can be common on older operating systems where Windows Updates are not regularly applied. 

Resolution

Ensure Windows is fully up to date by

• Click Start > Control Panel > Windows Update
• Check for updates
• Reboot - we would always recommend this even if not prompted

Also, you may need to run the Check for updates a number of times to get all the inter dependent updates.

Workaround

Install a full set of the Visual C++ Redistributables for your Windows operating system, available from 
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=48145
