Performing a clean install of Tekla Structures 2018i and older versions

In this article we will talk about how to perform a clean install of Tekla Structures version 2018i and older.
This is something you would do to correct an issue with Tekla running on your computer.
Prerequisites before starting
- Save any customizations or add-on files you might have made to local installations.
- Back up models to secure location before modifying system files.
Removing the old installation
On your computer go into the "Control Panel" and open the "Unistall a Program" section.
In Uninstall a Program at the top right hand corner search for "Tekla". In the window start uninstalling Extensions first, always start with extensions and then once they are removed proceed to uninstalling the environments.
Once all the extensions and environments are removed proceed to uninstalling the service releases and last the main software installation. See below:

Next we need to delete any leftover files, open Windows Explorer (folder) and go to your Tekla folder.
This could be a couple places, the default locations are listed below:
- C:\Program Files\Tekla Structures
- C:\ProgramData\Tekla Structures
The secondary location that Tekla Structures could be installed if chosen during setup is:
- C:\TeklaStructures
If you find any files in these locations that are related to the version you are removing go ahead and delete them.
Cleaning the Registry

Serious problems might occur if you modify the registry incorrectly by using Registry Editor or by using other methods. These problems might require that you reinstall the operating system. We cannot guarantee that these problems can be solved. Modify the registry at your own risk. |
The next step might require your IT administrator if you are not familiar with the registry or do not have access.
Go ahead and open the Registry on your computer (Start > Regedit) and delete the version specific registry keys under the following locations
- HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Trimble\TeklaStructures\
- HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Tekla\Structures\
- HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Tekla\Structures Environments\
