In this article, you will learn how to perform a clean installation of Tekla Structures. You might want to do this if there are compatibility issues with Tekla Structures or if you are experiencing crashing and have already tried the suggestions here.
Prerequisites before starting
- Save any customizations or add-on files you might have made to local installations.
- Back up models to secure location before modifying system files.
Uninstalling Tekla Structures
On your computer, go to the Windows -button and click on the gear symbol. Then, go to the settings and click the Apps -button. Next, search for "Tekla".
It is important that you uninstall any environments or extensions first. The picture below shows you what type of files you should remove first.
After you have removed all the extensions and environments, you can uninstall the service releases if you have service packs installed. If you have not installed any service packs, you can uninstall the main software installation.

Remove Leftover Files
Next, you need to delete any leftover files. You should delete all files which relate to that version of Tekla Structures you are uninstalling. Deleting those files will help ensure a successful installation of the new version of Tekla Structures.
You can do this by opening the file explorer app and using it to navigate to your Tekla directory. The location of the Tekla directory varies. The examples below show some typical locations:
- C:\TeklaStructures
- C:\Program Files\Tekla Structures
- C:\ProgramData\Trimble\Tekla Structures
- %LOCALAPPDATA%\Trimble\Tekla Structures
- %LOCALAPPDATA%\Trimble\TeklaStructures.exe_StrongName_03eects4y11wbwbyo4vxmp1h3dd52tzg
Cleaning the Registry

Warning: Please use caution when editing the registry. Serious problems may occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. These problems might require that you reinstall the operating system. We cannot guarantee that these problems can be solved.
Modify the registry at your own risk.
The next step might require help from your IT administrator. If you are not familiar with the registry or do not have elevated permissions to access Registry Editor.
Open the Registry Editor on your computer (Start > Regedit) and delete the version-specific registry keys under the following locations:
- HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Trimble\Tekla Account\
- HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Trimble\Tekla Structures\
- HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Trimble\Tekla Structures\
- HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Trimble\Tekla Structures Environments\
Reinstall The Program
