Problem

Customers have reported that licenses are not returned after using the BIM Publisher tool in Tekla Structures overnight. In the morning, users find a locked license, preventing further use. This issue affects multiple Tekla Structures versions, indicating it is not version-specific. 

Reason 
The issue appears to be related to errors occurring during the BIM Publisher process. If there is any error in the BIM Publisher logs, Tekla Structures may not close properly, resulting in the license not being returned. This problem can more easily happen if the BIM Publisher is run on a separate machine or in a virtual environment such as Citrix workspace.

Solution
To resolve this issue, follow these steps:

  1. Check for errors in BIM Publisher logs:
    Ensure that there are no errors in the BIM Publisher logs. If errors are found, address them to ensure the process runs smoothly.  In some cases, reinstalling the environments has resolved the issue.
  2. Ensure license is not kept by settings:
    Modify the bypass.ini or TeklaStructures.ini file to include the setting XS_DEFAULT_KEEP_ONLINE_LICENSE_CHECKBOX=FALSE. This setting ensures that the license is not kept when BIM Publisher is run overnight.
