Question

If I close an open scene view and re-open it, I find that I lose any scene content settings that I have defined and need to set them again each time. Is it possible for the scene view to remember the settings?

Answer

Yes, you can use Save View Configuration….

You can open scene views to display the model as either a 3D Structure, a specific level, frame, inclined plane, sub model, sub structures or individual member view. You can also use the Cutting Planes command to reduce a 3D Structure view by cutting planes from any face of a cube. How to create these views is not the topic of this article so please refer to the Help system and other Tekla User Assistance articles for guidance.

Scene views can be further customised using the Scene Content window entity categories and entity information control checkboxes to show only the detail you wish to display.

Once the scene view displays the content you require, it is possible to save the view for two different reasons:

  • For later recall.
  • For inclusion as a picture in reports.

To save a view, display the right click context menu by right clicking the mouse within the view and selecting the Save View Configuration… command. Note that the zoomed extent of the view is also retained so ensure that the view is how you want it. A dialog appears asking you to name the saved view for ease of recall later.

Recall a View

If you close a scene view and then re-open it via the Project Workspace, Structure tree, the scene content settings are not retained. However, recalling a saved view retains the zoom level and the scene content settings.

Saved views are managed via the Home ribbon, Manage View Configurations command.

Within this dialog you can:

  • Open View - to open the selected saved view
  • Delete - to delete the selected saved view
  • Preview - to show an image of the selected saved view

Using the Open View button will open a new scene view window. Note the zoomed state and the scene content settings are remembered.
