Introduction

Welcome to Construsoft and congratulations on the purchase of your new Tekla Structures online license.

Through this manual we will take you step-by-step through how to download, install and activate Tekla Structures. This of course to get you off to a good start right away.

We assume that, with the help of this manual, you can install Tekla Structures yourself so you can get started right away! Do you need support?

A Trimble Identity

To be able to use Tekla Online Services (chapter Additional Information > Tekla Online Services) and to license Tekla Structures, you must have a Trimble Identity.

A Trimble Identity is an account associated with an organization. Click here for more information about the Trimble Identity.

An application administrator is indicated on the agreement. This application administrator will receive an invitation to a Trimble Identity at his/her email address.

Have you not yet received this? No problem, you can already create a Trimble Identity.

Create a Trimble Identity

To create a Trimble Identity, do the following:

1. Go to https://account.tekla.com and click on the button Log in.

2. Click on the button Create a Trimble ID to create a Trimble Identity.

3. Select the region European Union (EU) and click Next:

4. Enter your information and click the Next button. You will receive an email with a code.

If the mail is not in the inbox, it may have ended up in the junk mail folder.

5. Enter the code and click the Submit button:

6. Next create a password and click the Submit button:

7. If desired, you can adjust your account preferences:

8. Click on the button Count me in or I'll enable MFA later to add an extra layer of security to your account:

9. Enter the additional information, place a check mark at I accept Privacy notice and Terms of service and click the Save button:

Your Trimble Identity is now created, this is your personal Trimble account.

10. Next step is to link your Trimble account to the organization. Only personal accounts associated with a company with a valid maintenance contract have access to Tekla Online Services.

If you do not know who the administrator is for your organization, contact the Construsoft Helpdesk.

You can now log in to use Tekla Online Services.

Invite your colleagues

You can invite your colleagues to use any of your licenses and/or the services. You can manage this through the Tekla Online Admin Tool. You log in to this page with your Trimble Identity.

Next you can add employees or external license users to your corporate account and set up which products or services they have access to.

Do you (as an application administrator) not have access to your company account in the Tekla Online Admin Tool? If so, please contact our Support Desk.

Using a Trimble Identity

If you have a Trimble Identity associated with your company, you can go to Tekla Online Services at http://www.tekla.com. Next click on the Support button and go to the Tekla User Assistance service.

Next, click the Login button.

You can also login to Tekla Structures itself:

If you are logged in, select the language English:

You can now browse the content or search for information.

Download Tekla Structures

The installation of Tekla Structures 2023 SP8 consists of the following parts:

1. Tekla License Administration Tool 2022. You use this tool to activate and distribute Tekla Structures licenses across your network.

2. Tekla Structures 2023 SP8. This is the basic installation of Tekla Structures 2023.

3. Construsoft Developments. This is an additional installation for you as a customer. This installation includes additional components and plug-ins, as well as local settings so you can get started quickly.

4. Additional environments (optional). If desired, you can use additional environments in addition to the environment Netherlands.

Download the following files:

1. Tekla License Administration Tool 2022

Save the file TeklaLicenseAdministrationTool_2022.exe op (local or server).

2. Tekla Structures 2023 SP8

Save the file TeklaStructures2023ServicePack8.exe op (local or server).

3. Construsoft Developments

Save the file Construsoft_TS2023_Netherlands.exe op (local or server).

You may now see a message indicating that your PC is protected and that an unknown app has been prevented from starting. Click the More Info button in the corresponding dialog box, next click the Run Anyway button to start the installation.

The following messages may also appear, this depends on the browser you are using:

Allow the download of the installer.

4. Click environments in case you want to use additional environments.

You do not need to download the environment Netherlands, it is installed by default during the installation of the Construsoft developments!

(Additional environments are available in Tekla Download).

Installing Tekla Structures

General information before installing

Before starting the installation procedure, make sure you have the necessary access rights (log in as "administrator"). Without the proper permissions, some *.dll files cannot be copied into the appropriate folder in Windows and the installation will fail.

The Tekla Structures installation is very simple, however, there are some things you should pay close attention to. Therefore, read the installation manual carefully beforehand, even if you have someone else installing the software! This can save a lot of time and aggravation.

Operating System

Tekla Structures 2023 is compatible with Windows 11 and Windows 10 (64-bit).

Installing Tekla Structures License Administration Tool 2022

1. Double-click on the file TeklaLicenseAdministrationTool_2022.exe.

You may now see a message indicating that your PC is protected and that an unknown app has been prevented from starting. Click the More Info button in the corresponding dialog box, next click the Run Anyway button to start the installation.

2. The following dialog box appears.

3. Select the language you want to use during the installation procedure and click OK. The following dialog box appears:

4. Click Next:

5. Select the check box next to I agree.... and click Next.

6. Click Next.

7. By default, Tekla License Administration Tool 2022 is installed in the folder C:\Tekla\License\Server. If desired, change the location and click Next.

8. Click Install to start the installation.

Tekla License Administration Tool 2022 is being installed. This may take a while...

9. Click Finish.

10. Allow the following files in the folder C:\Tekla\License\Server to be accessed through the Windows firewall:

- lmgrd.exe
- tekla.exe
- lmutil.exe

Installing Tekla Structures 2023 SP8

1. Double-click the file TeklaStructures2023ServicePack8.exe. The following dialog box appears:

Select the language you want to use during the installation procedure and click OK. Immediately after selecting the language, a message from Microsoft may appear. Then click Install.

Tekla Structures 2023 SP8 uses Microsoft .NET Framework 4.8 and Microsoft Visual C++ 2013 and 2015. These are automatically installed on your computer during installation of Tekla Structures 2023 SP8 if they are not already on it. You can also download .NET Framework 4.8 from the Microsoft Download Center.

Wait for the dialog box below to appear. This may take several minutes...

2. Click Next.

3. Select the check box next to I agree.... and click Next.

4. Select the check box next to C:\TeklaStructures and click Next.

5. Select the folder where the Tekla Structures models will be saved and click Next.

6. Click Install to start the installation.

Tekla Structures 2023 SP8 is being installed. This may take several minutes...

7. Click Finish.

Installing Construsoft developments

Make sure you are connected to the Internet (online) because installation files will be downloaded.

1. Double-click the file Construsoft_TS2023_Netherlands.exe to start installing:

You may now see a message indicating that your PC is protected and that an unknown app has been prevented from starting. Click the More Info button in the corresponding dialog box, then click the Run Anyway button to start the installation.

A message may also appear about a partially executed ReadProcessMemory or WriteProcessMemory command. In this case, restart the PC once or log off and back on to the PC once.

2. Click Install, the installation files will be downloaded:

...and then the Construsoft tools are installed

Tekla Structures is now being updated. This may take several minutes...

3. Click Close. The installation is now completed.

Installing additional environments

1. Double-click the file of your additional environment so that it will be installed, for example the Env_ConstrusoftEuropean_2023_80.exe.

(The folder ConstrusoftEuropean is created and the installation files are extracted and stored in this folder).

2. Now start Tekla Structures, you can now select the appropriate environment in the Tekla Structures dialog box:

For system administrators

The following commands support the silent installation of the Construsoft developments:

/s ….. means silent mode. Will not displayed GUI.

/log log_file_name.log …. installation process log will be save to “log_file_name.log” file. You can use full path too … for example: /log c:\Temp\log_file_name.log

/u ….. means uninstallation.

Checklist for an installation log

Tekla Structures comes with many options to customize the software to better suit your business or your customer's needs. Frequently, people don't remember what they have modified, making a transition to a newer version a bigger challenge than it really is.

Therefore, you have a checklist for an installation log which you can download as a Word document and document and save your changes in it. When the next new version is released, you can quickly see what needs to be changed or checked so that you can quickly start working with the new version.

Activating Tekla Structures license(s)

To be able to use Tekla Structures, the license(s) mailed to your organization must be activated.

Earlier Tekla Structures versions (12.0 through 2022) also work with the license for Tekla Structures 2023 SP8.

NOTE: When the license is activated and you perform work on your computer (formatting, replacing hardware), always deactivate the license(s) first.

Licenses lost through negligence will not be replaced without charge.

Activate the license(s)

1. Save the license certificate (*.html file) that was emailed to your organization in the folder C:\Tekla\License\Server on the computer where the Tekla License Administration Tool is installed (local or server).

2. Make sure you have a suitable Internet connection. An Internet connection is required while activating the license(s).

3. Open the Windows Explorer and double-click the file LicenseAdministrationTool.exe in the folder C:\Tekla\License\Server to start the Tekla License Administration Tool 2020 program.

4. Click the Open... button to open the license certificate. Detailed information about the license(s) is displayed in the Entitled Licenses section:

5. Select the number of licenses you want to activate from the Activate drop-down list.

6. If necessary, click the Inform Server button so that it is enabled.

7. Now click the Activate button (make sure you are and remain connected to the Internet so that the Tekla License Administration Tool connects to Tekla's activation server).

While activating or deactivating licenses, never click the Cancel button, this may cause your licenses to be lost and prevent you from working with Tekla Structures. Activation or deactivation may take several minutes.

If the license(s) are activated, the activated licenses are displayed in the Activated Licenses section in the lower section in the Tekla License Administration Tool.

Workstation

If the Tekla License Administration Tool is installed on a workstation, Tekla Structures can be started immediately.

Server

If the License Administration Tool is installed on a server, the following message appears when you start Tekla Structures:

8. Enter the address of the Tekla License Administration Tool. That is 27007@servername (the name of the server on which the license is activated).

You can also see what the address is in the tool LMTOOLS (lmtools.exe in the folder C:\Tekla\License\Server) on the Server Status tab.

9. In the LMTOOLS program, click the button Perform Status Enquiry in the Server Status tab to display the information you need to enter at the Server address:

Backup activated license(s)

Always backup your activated license(s) in case the computer falls into disrepair and needs to be refitted, such as if an operating system needs to be reinstalled. The backup should be made on the computer on which the licenses are activated.

The information of your activated license(s) is stored in the folder:

C:\ProgramData\FlexNet

(Windows 10 and Windows 11)

In case the folder is not visible in Windows Explorer, in Explorer, go to Tools > Folder Options.... On the View tab in the advanced settings, select the check box next to Show hidden files and folders.

Starting Tekla Structures

The installation is completed and you can now get started with Tekla Structures.

You will find the application on your desktop or in the Start menu.

Start Tekla Structures.

Next, log in with your Trimble Identity and in the dialog box, select Use your local license server. Enter the server address here.

Additional information

Borrowing Tekla Structures license(s)
