I have a model that has both column and matt foundation support reactions. How do I turn off the Matt foundation reactions to declutter the Results view?

Question

Currently, the Results View > Support Reactions group controls the display for all support types (Column, Walls, Matt foundations etc.), so everything is either On or Off in the scene view being displayed.

There are currently no Scene Content controls to further refine the display.

So, how do we turn off the Matt foundation reactions to declutter the Results view?

Answer

Sub Structures

The solution is to create a scene view that only has the items you wish to view results for. You can achieve this by using the Sub Structure command within Tekla Structural Designer.

Use the Results View > Sub Structure command to create a new scene view that does not contain the matt foundation slab in the view.

Details of how to create Sub Structures are contained within the Help system so are not repeated here. Press F1 and search "Sub Structure" for guidance on how to create them.

The screenshot below has created a new sub structure called Sub Structure 1, which has added every item in the model and then removed just the matt foundation from the view.

In the Project Workspace > Structure pane, single click on the Sub Structure name to open the Properties window to change the name if you wish

In the Project Workspace > Structure pane, double click on the Sub-structure name to open the Scene view to work with it.

Switch back to Results view.

Turn on the Support reactions and text value and the results are provided at the base of every column. Note: This also includes the columns that are coming down onto the matt, since we may also be interested in the interface between the column and the matt.

You could also have created Sub Structure views that included only the Matt (Sub Structure 2 in screenshot below) or just columns with physical supports (Sub Structure 3 in screenshot below).

The content of Sub Structure views are controlled by you, so can be a very powerful tool.
