I am trying to analyse a slab on its own. Why do I get the Validation Error "No elements in the Solver model"?

Answer

This error can occur in models consisting of a flat slab supported directly on supports (i.e. a model intended to analyse a slab on its own).

This error occurs due to the way the analytical model is created in Tekla Structural Designer.

A slab by default is assumed to be replaced with a diaphragm.

Diaphragms require at least three nodes in order to work. Supports do not qualify as nodes as they are never included in a diaphragm since they would constrain the diaphragm from moving together.

When the model is intended to be a stand alone slab, or a slab supporting/supported by less than three elements, the error can be addressed by using the Level Property "Mesh 2-way Slabs in 3D Analysis". This will mesh the slab, creating 2D elements which form part of the analysis.

Please refer to the Related To Article on the right, "When should I use the "Mesh 2-way Slabs in 3D analysis" option?" for further details about this setting.
