Tekla Structures 2026 - 2020
Environment
Not environment-specific

This example shows how to set the top-in-form face for a sandwich element and how it affects the cast unit drawing.

There are some prerequisites which must be filled before selecting the top-in-form face succeeds.

  • Model view type has to be: Rendered
  • Select switch has to be: Selects objects inside components
  • You need to select top in form face from the main part of the cast unit. Selecting top in form face from the secondary parts does not affect anything.

In the example below, the grey panel is the main part of the cast unit. To find out what is the main part of the cast unit, select one part in cast-unit, right-click and select Inquire > Cast Unit. Main part is shown temporarily with magenta color.

You need to pick the top-in-form face from the main part of the cast unit. It might be difficult, especially if you want to pick the inner side in sandwich panel and there are other layers in front.

In some cases you might need to hide insulation and outer panel to be able to pick the correct face.

To hide the other layers and leave only main part visible,

  1. Double-click view to get View properties dialog box.
  2. Click Object group... button and in the Object Group - View Filter dialog box, enter following view filter:
CategoryPropertyConditionValue
TemplateMAIN_PARTEquals 1

Pay attention to the status row, when using the command Cast unit > Set top-in-form face. If selecting the top in form face is not successful, you will see the text "Object not found -- Pick object face".

To check the top in form face in model, use the command Cast unit > Show top-in-form face.
