Question

I have lost the Properties window and cannot retrieve it. How do I reset the interface layout?

Answer

Occasionally, the file that contains the information about the layout of your interface can become corrupted. You can fix this by closing down Tekla Structural Designer, then deleting the file containing the layout information.

  1. Ensure Tekla Structural Designer is closed
  2. Open Explorer and browse to the folder listed below.
C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Trimble\Tekla Structural Designer\version number
For versions 2024 or older use the directory below
C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Trimble\Tekla Structural Designer\version number

Hint: type "%localappdata%" in Windows Explorer to get to C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\

  1. Select the file Docklayout5.xml and delete it.
  • Docklayout5.xml contains the window layout data (this may be called DockLayout4.xml or DockLayout3.xml if you are running an older version)
  • QATCommands.xml contains the Quick Access Toolbar layout data (this only needs to be deleted if you wish to reset the Quick Access Toolbar)
  1. Open Tekla Structural Designer and the layout will be reset.
