In this article you will learn how to delete a gridline in Tekla Structural Designer

Problem

When you select the grid or construction line and press the Delete command on the quick access toolbar the "Entities to be deleted" dialog box is empty. Why?

Resolution

You can only delete a grid or construction line if it is not being referenced by any other element, load, dimension etc. , or a Frame does not exist that utilises the gridline. Architectural grids are shared and therefore exist on all the levels specified for the grid system.

As an example, a beam exists on an upper level that references the architectural grid 2A which we wish to remove.

To remove gridline 2a at the base level you could delete any element referencing this gridline on any of the levels. Alternatively if you wanted to delete the gridline at a specific level only, you could disassociate the gridline from the rest of the levels by selecting the gridline on the level and change it to a Construction Line. This then makes the line unique to just this level.

Check that a frame does not exist.

Delete the Frame from the model that references the gridline.

Once any associations to the gridline or construction line are removed then the line can be deleted.

Show references

Tekla Structural Designer 2016i Service Pack 3 (16.1.3.91) has added a right click context menu option Show references that will report to you any dependencies that must be deleted before the grid or construction line can be deleted.

Simply right click over the gridline and Show references.
