How do I define an element in the model with zero density?

When using wall panels that span vertically, an element is required at the base of the structure to pick up the load decomposition.

You may wish to place elements in the model that do not add weight to the overall structure.

Create a General Material Property with zero density

  1. Click Home > Material.
  2. Open the Material page
  3. Set the Material type to General
  4. Click Add
  5. Define an appropriate property but with zero density.

Place an analysis element at the base of the wall ensuring you assign the material grade defined above

  1. Ensure Characteristic is Analysis element
  2. Ensure Material type is General
  3. Ensure Grade is set to the value defined in the previous screenshot (Zero density)
  4. Ensure that appropriate analysis element properties are defined for Area and Inertia.

Why do I have to use an analysis element? Why can I not define a concrete property but with zero density?

Tekla Structural Designer sets some validation against the concrete material properties so that inappropriate values cannot be used.
