What is a Sub Structure
A Sub Structure is a collection of elements which can be any shape, size, material or otherwise (unlike grouping). Sub Structures can be useful to filter drawings and reports, create smaller views, design certain members at once and otherwise.Creating a Sub-Structure
Switch to the Review ViewImage
Invoke the Review ribbon tab > Sub Structures command

In the Properties window you can choose to Review which items are in existing Sub Structures (the default when opening this view) or you can set it to Update so that you can create new Sub Structures or add to existing ones.

Select or Create the required Sub Structure

Select the members you wish to add by using the Selection methods available. Click, Drag or Shift + Line

In the Project Workspace Structure > Structure tree, you can then via the right click context menu, open the view, and check and design this view.

When defining reports you can also use Sub Structures to limit the amount of information to include in the report using filters.
- Access the Report ribbon
- Click Model Report...
- Choose the Report you wish to set a Sub Structure filter to
- In the Report Structure, right click to apply a Filter
- Select Model Filter
- Edit/New
- Select the Sub Structure you wish to use and provide a name for the Filter so it can be quickly selected at step 6 in the future.
