To raise a simple unit to a power you simply need to use superscript or the equivalent expression text
For example: mm^(3) or mm3
However some units are actually a product combination of simple units
For example: kNm or kip_ft
Furthermore you may wish to only raise part of that unit to a power such as
For example: kN.m3 or kip.ft2 - these are not the same as (kNm)3 or (kipft)2
How do you do this?
Solution
This can be achieved by splitting the unit with the multiplication symbol to define the product and placing brackets around the whole unit. The brackets cannot be ommited.
For example: (kN x m3)
