Fixing overlapping assembly positions
This article explains how to correct numbering series when you get the Overlapping assembly number series warning message.
Below is a simplified situation of overlapping assembly numbering series. Two red beams have numbering series A/1 and two grey beams have numbering series A/2. All four beams have different length, so when you number the model, there will be two different beams with the same number A/2. This is the overlapping problem.

When you open the log file (Tools > Display Log File > Numbering History... or Session History...), there might be the following error message: “Assembly numbering series overlap: Position number A/2 in series A/1 overlaps with position number A/2 in series A/2.”
In this case, we will change the numbers in series A/2 to start from 10 instead of 2. This leaves some additional numbers for series A/1. The number you enter depends on how many numbers are conflicting and how many different assemblies there will be created in series A/1.
In the part properties (in this case beam properties), clear all modify filter check boxes with
and select only the check box in front of the assembly start number field. Change the number from 2 to 10.Image
Prepare a selection filter for selecting all parts in conflicting assembly series. In this case we select all parts, which have same assembly prefix ( A ) and assembly start number ( 2 ) as in the conflicting series:
Click Apply to turn on the selection filter.
Make sure that you have the Select components or Selects parts in components selection switch active.
Select all parts (either with Crtl+A or with area selection over the model). Because you have the selection filter on, only the parts in assembly series A/2 are selected.
Click Modify in the Beam Properties dialog box.
Number the model and check that the assembly numbers are correct. Our example looks like this after numbering:

| If you change the assembly numbering series in the Steel Assembly dialog box instead of part properties, you will not be able to modify the assembly numbering series from the part properties dialog box any more. See also: Assembly prefix and start number fields are greyed out |
