A frequently asked question in estimating is, "what populates the shop and field bolt fields in the Fabrication Summary reports?"

The material cost for the shop and field bolt rows in these reports is derived from the shop and field bolt prices entered in the Fabricator Information window.

Bolts that are manually entered or imported as a line item will not be classified as shop bolts or field bolts in these reports. Instead, they will be included in the total material cost line in the report and the pricing will pull from pricing maintenance.

Shop Bolts

The shop bolt row in the fabrication summary report is populated by quantities associated with standard clips, also known as auto-clips. If you use a labor code that includes standard clips or you manually add standard clips in the Additional Labor and Clips section, you will see the associated bolt quantities in the shop bolt row.

Field Bolts

The field bolt row in the fabrication summary report is populated by quantities associated with the "holes" input field. If quantities are entered in this field on a line item that is in the beam or tube material group, PowerFab will automatically include an equal number of bolts in the estimate. Holes added to shapes in the angles, plates, and rods material groups will not include bolts.
