Note that handrails can be created in various ways, and these instructions might not apply to your case. In that case, contact your local helpdesk for support. |
Step 1
Go to the warehouse and download the "Laser Overlay Export for Handrails" package to get the files needed. You can find a direct link here.
Step 2
You will get a ZIP package containing the files you need. Extract/copy those files from the zip package to your model folders attribute folder, as shown in the image below. Next, close and reopen the model.
Step 3
in your Tekla model, go to Drawings and Reports > Drawing Settings > Assembly Drawings to open the Assembly Drawing properties. Load the "HandrailLaser" settings. See the image below. The sheet number here is set to "1".

Note that you need to pick an alternative number if you already have a drawing called sheet 1. |
Step 4
In your model, select all handrails that you need to export and create drawings of these handrails using the loaded settings. If the drawings are created correctly, then you should now have an extra drawing for each assembly. For example, the example image below shows that there is now HR1 (my original detailed drawing) and HR1 - 1, which is the drawing set up for the laser overlay.
Step 5
This step is to check if you have set up the drawings correctly.
First, here is what a flat handrail drawing should look like if done correctly.
The image below shows an incorrect view from the above.
To fix this, open the drawing properties (double click in the background of the drawing) and change the View in which the drawing is looking at, see the image below for guidance. If the bottom view is ON, you might need to turn that view OFF and turn on the Front View.
If your drawings have sloping rails, make the rail's sloped portion the main part of the assembly (shown red in the image below). This will ensure that the orientation of the rail in the drawing is correct.
If you model the handrail with the correct main part, the drawing should look like in the image below.
Step 6
In this last step, you create the DXFs to export to the laser overlay.
Close the drawing and open your Document Manager /Drawing List. Next, highlight all the drawings you need to export. Then Right-Click > Click Export to open the Export dialog box. Load the "HandrailLaser" setting, as shown below, and click Export. At that point, all the DXFs will be put in your Model Folder > Plotfiles folder.
If you have issues getting your drawings to look as shown in the examples above, contact your local helpdesk.
