Exporting drawings to scale

When exporting drawings to DWG/DXF/DGN, you want to ensure that you have an accurate scale. To do this, you would want to divide your current view scale by 25.4, and the result would then be your exporting scale.

Example: Exporting a drawing to DWG/DXF/DGN with an accurate scale.

  1. To export a drawing in Tekla Structures to DWG/DXF/DGN, open the Document manager (Drawings & Reports > Document Manager) and then open the drawing that you want to export.
  2. To find out what scale is being used in a view, double-click the view frame of one of the views in the drawing, which will bring up the View Properties dialog boxHere you can see the scale.

  3. Once you have identified the drawing scale, you can calculate the scale that the export needs to be set at. To do this (per the example above) you would divide 48 by 25.4 which would equal 1.889764. Now that you know the scale, you are ready to export your drawing to DWG/DXF.

When exporting a drawing to DWG/DXF/DGN, you can only export the drawing based on one scale. If you have multiple views in a single drawing with different view scales,  Tekla Structures will not adjust to each scale. Only the scale that you calculate the export factor for will be accurate.
  4. To export the drawing, go back to Document manager, right-click the drawing that you want to export, and click Export. The export dialog box will be displayed.
  5. Select the option Drawing as snapshot to CAD model space to activate the Scale box. Enter the scale calculated earlier and then click Export
In versions before 2018i, go to the Options tab where you can adjust the Drawing scale.
Finally, the drawing will be exported, and a DWG/DXF/DGN file will be created in the file location that you specified.
