Decreasing model size

Question:
I have a large multi-user model that I need to downsize. I have tried deleting some unnecessary parts and drawings, but the model size still remains on the same level. Are there some other ways to decrease the model size?

Answer:
The reason might be extensive model history. Check if the advanced option XS_COLLECT_MODEL_HISTORY is set to TRUE. Then you can probably see a long list of history information if you inquire some of the parts in the model. To reduce the model size you can delete the history information using the advanced option XS_CLEAR_MODEL_HISTORY. Follow these steps:

  • Open the model in single user mode.
  • In Advanced Options > Speed and accuracy, set XS_CLEAR_MODEL_HISTORY to TRUE.
  • Save and close model, and also close Tekla Structures.
  • If you want to continue collecting model history, open the model again in single user mode and set XS_CLEAR_MODEL_HISTORY to FALSE.
  • Save and close model, and also close Tekla Structures.
  • Start using the model in multi-user mode.
