Create Named Device Trimble Identity Login Email Accounts for PowerFab Go
Many users setting up their shop or field crews for Tekla PowerFab Go do not want to create separate email addresses to create Trimble Identities for each of their employees or devices. This can be accomplished by using one email address and multiple email "aliases" for the Named Device PowerFab Go licenses.
Creating Email Aliases for Each Device
One actual email address is required for the aliases to be linked to. This can be any email, so it could be the shop manager's (ex. shopmgr@myfabshop.com), or a general email for the shop or an email created specifically for PowerFab Go users (ex. powerfab@myfabshop.com). This account will then need an alias for each device. This main account must be monitored to complete the setup of each aliases Trimble Identity.
The exact process for establishing an alias depends on the mail server. Most mail servers support ad-hoc (as needed) aliases by simply placing a plus "+" after the username (but before the at "@" symbol) and the alias. Examples of this would be powerfab+tablet1@myfabshop.com, powerfab+tablet2@myfabshop.com, powerfab+tablet3@myfabshop.com. If the mail server supports ad-hoc aliases, no additional setup is required.
If the mail server does not support ad-hoc aliases, they will have to be manually created in the mail server. The exact process for this will be defined by the mail server. Trimble does not administer mail servers, please reach out to your IT to have the aliases created. It is recommended to create aliases only for the number of licenses that will be used.
Establishing Trimble Identities for and Assigning Licenses to Device Alias Emails
When aliases are defined, they can be added to the Organization in the Tekla Online Admin Tool. The process for this is the same as any other email address:
- Open the Tekla Online Admin Tool in a web browser.
- Navigate to the Users section and click Invite users.
- In the popup enter the email aliases you will be using separated with a comma "
,". You can add up to 50 emails at a time. Most users simply invite the number of PowerFab Go licenses that will be shared. - Edit the assigned licenses to be Tekla PowerFab Go.

- Click Invite
When you click Invite, one email for each entered ID will be sent to the primary email address (ex. powerfab@myfabshop.com) for Trimble Identities to be configured. Follow the directions in the delivered emails to establish a Trimble Identity for each alias. Often opening each link separately in a Incognito or Private browser window will prevent cookies from retaining the previous Trimble Identity session.
Setting Up Individual PowerFab Database Users for Go
In order to sign in to Tekla PowerFab Go, users/devices need to:
-
Be added to the company's PowerFab database users as a Tekla PowerFab user or an external Tekla PowerFab user. For additional guidance, reference the Manage Tekla PowerFab users Product guide.
We recommend that any Tekla PowerFab Go users within your company are added as Tekla PowerFab users and not external users. External Tekla PowerFab users cannot see or select the most commonly used options in the lists available in Tekla PowerFab Go.
-
Have the Allow Tekla PowerFab Login option enabled by your administrator if you are an internal Tekla PowerFab user. For additional guidance, reference the Manage Tekla PowerFab user permissions Product guide.
-
Have at least the Allow Remote Login option enabled by your administrator. Any other remote permissions allow you to perform actions in Tekla PowerFab Go.
Note that the admin user that is created in Tekla PowerFab by default cannot have any remote permissions enabled, so you cannot sign in to Tekla PowerFab Go with that username.
-
Have a password with of at least three characters set in Tekla PowerFab. You cannot sign in to Tekla PowerFab Go with a blank password.
Recording Actions to PowerFab by Device
When setting up database users for PowerFab Go devices, record the device Trimble Identity in the Trimble Identity field. When users Sign in to Tekla PowerFab Go, they will need to log in with the device Trimble Identity. PowerFab Go will record their actions to the device database user.
Recording Actions to PowerFab by Individual User
If you need PowerFab to record which specific user is processing actions through Go on a shared device, each user will need to have their own database user. The device Trimble Identity must not be recorded in the Trimble Identity field. When users Sign in to Tekla PowerFab Go, they will need to log in with the device Trimble Identity and then they will be prompted to log in with their individual database user login and password.
