Coordinate transformations in Layout Manager

Tekla Structures contains functionality which can transform imported or exported coordinates from one coordinate system to another. Coordinate transformation is done by picking a new origin and pointing new directions for the X and Y axes (the Z axis always follows right-handed orientation).

Exported layout points
Coordinate transformation for exported layout points:

  1. Click Manage > Layout Manager.
  2. Click the Show property pane icon

  1. Select the point group that will be exported.

  2. Under Group local coordinate system, pick the new Location (origin) for exported points.

  3. Pick the new X axis direction.

  4. Pick the new Y axis direction.

  5. Alternatively, you can pick Use current workplane.

  6. Confirm the new coordinate system by clicking Set.

  7. Follow the instructions of Export layout data from step 3 onwards.


Imported layout points
Coordinate transformation for imported layout points:

  1. Follow the instructions of Import layout data up to step 5.

  1. Under Insert coordinate system box, unselect Insert to default coordinate system.

  2. Pick the new Location (origin) for imported points.

  3. Pick the new X axis direction.

  4. Pick the new Y axis direction.

  5. Alternatively, you can pick Use current workplane.

  6. Confirm the new coordinate system by clicking Set.

  7. If needed, define the point file columns in the Text File Import - Column Headers Mapping dialog box.

  8. Select the group to which the layout data is imported.

  9. Click OK.
