Masonry Quantity Report Template
A new excel-based quantity take-off report for masonry units has been added.
- 370 Masonry Block Quantities.xls
Tips for using the report:
- Create a report.
- Ensure the Show report drop-down on the Options tab of the Report settings dialog is set to “With associated viewer”.
- The report template will only report on blocks whose Prefix is either “CMU” or “MB”. For more information see Masonry filters & User-defined attributes below.
Masonry Organizer Settings
Additional organizer categories, property categories, and property sets have been provided to assist in masonry workflows. For more information on The Organizer and its function, see Organizer. Users are encouraged to utilize these settings and modify them as needed to suit their specific company needs.
Basic Categories:
- Masonry Grout: Shows only blocks that are tagged as Reinforced (CMU_REBAR = 1) or Grouted (CMU_GROUT = Yes)
- Masonry Report: Shows any masonry unit with the assembly prefix (ASSEMBLY_PREFIX) of “CMU” or “MB”.
Property Categories:
Blocks listed in the object browser can be selected and placed into one of the sub-categories of the following Property Categories. Once done, sync the organizer or just the specific property category to write the name of the sub-category to the block.
- Masonry - Finish
- Masonry - Color
- Masonry - Block Type
For more information, see Property Categories.
Property Templates:
Two additional property templates have been provided for work with masonry units.

Mortar and Grout Calculations
The mortar columns found in these reports are calculated by determining the net surface area of the top and one side of the block, then multiplied by the desired thickness. These settings provide calculations for 3/8” and 1/2” joints.
The grout volume is determined by manually calculating the volume of the overall block using its length, width, and height. Then the next volume (the volume of the block that takes into account the cavities). The resulting remainder is the volume of the cavities of the blocks.

Additional information
- Requires installation of CMU Tools from the Tekla Warehouse.
- The Masonry model template is not required but is useful for masonry-centric models. Acceptable alternative template: CIP-Rebar Detailing.
- The settings in this role rely on masonry units that have an assembly prefix (ASSEMBLY_PREFIX) of “CMU” or “MB”. All presets and standard settings provided populate this correctly.
- Users may need to update blocks in existing models before these features will work as expected.
- Users may need to update any company-specific settings to ensure the assembly prefix is correct to work with this role.
Limitations
- Settings are currently only compatible with US Imperial.
- Grout volume calculations only provide volume for all cavities of a block.
