This article concerns those Tekla Structures users, who use circular spiral reinforcement and have them visible in the drawings.
We have been reported about performance problems in opening drawings containing circular spiral reinforcement. Problems are not specific to a certain Tekla Structures version, but they have been reported from different versions, such as 2018 and 2022 for example. In our investigations we have identified three possible ways to work around the problem:
- In views, where spiral bar rounds are on top of each other, like plan and section views, reduce the view depth to contain only a small portion of the spiral bar.
- If a drawing contains multiple circular spiral reinforcements (typically a GA drawing), turning the advanced option XS_ALLOW_REBARS_ON_TOP_OF_EACH_OTHER=TRUE will significantly speed up drawing opening. The downside is that when bar in the middle of group or two bars in the middle of group setting is in use, top and bottom bars of slabs will be placed at the same location, on top of each other, and the bar location needs to be manually adjusted.
- Avoid using rebar representation type filled line for circular spiral bars. It causes slowness even if the drawing would contain only one such bar. Using double lines is much faster.
We are working on solving these issues, to avoid the need for these workarounds in the future.
