Can I use Tedds on an iPad or Android tablet?
Can I use Tedds on an iPad or Android tablet?
Yes.
Does Tedds run as a native application on tablets?
Tedds can be installed directly on a Windows tablet, however the majority of tablets use different operating systems to PCs and Tedds will only run as a native application on Windows operating System. We currently do not offer Tedds as an App, but you can still run Tedds via your tablet as detailed below.
So how can I use Tedds on a tablet?
You can access Tedds (or any other Windows software) using Remote Access software. Using a Remote client App on your tablet and Remote access software running on your PC you can remotely control your PC and view the display of your PC on the tablet.
What do I need to make it work?
- A Windows PC with Tedds installed
- An Internet/network connection
- The remote PC must be switched On
- Install a Remote client App on your tablet
- Configure both your tablet and PC's network access to allow remote access (for example configuring firewalls) - Tekla is unable to provide support to configure customer's networks correctly.
- Microsoft Remote Desktop
- Parallels Access
- TeamViewer
- Others…
What are the costs?
- It depends on which client you use, some are technically free (e.g. Microsoft, you’re already paying them for Windows)
- Microsoft Remote Desktop - free client for iOS and Android, no additional software required on PC
- Parallels - $80 per year for client, PC licenses vary from free upwards
- TeamViewer - free client for Android, iOS, Windows 8 / RT, Windows Phone 8, requires PC license of TeamViewer £95+ for commercial use
- Others…
What’s the user experience like?
Most Tedds calculations work well. However, it is important to note that while all the Remote Access clients go some way to mapping the touch user experience to the keyboard/mouse user experience, there are inevitably some aspects of PC software that are more difficult to control with your fingers.
How do I get started?
The easiest app to get started with is the Microsoft Remote Desktop client because although it is not necessarily the best client available it is free and requires no additional software on your PC. Search in the App Store for “Microsoft Remote Desktop” and follow Microsoft instructions.
